Preston Market Update: Sign the Petition

With the Victorian Planning Authority recommendations for the development of the Preston Market iminate, Darebin Mayor, Lina Messina, has launched yet another petition.

This is the third petition to gather community support for keeping the market where it is with heritage features in place.

Still, we are asking folk to sign if it means convincing the Minister for Planning that this is what the community want and expect.

Preston Market Update: Council motion of 22nd March 2021

Darebin Council voted to clarify it’s position on the protection of Preston Market from being demolished and moved, from excessive development heights and to advocate to remove the market from the fast track register.

The motion from the minutes is below or you can read it in the minutes: CouncilMeetingMinutes-22March2021

Preston Market Update: 22nd March 2021

Darebin Council voted to support the community position to leave Preston Market where it is, ensure protection of Preston Market’s heritage features and fabric and to set mandatory height limits on the site.

A last Councillor Rennie comes clean on her preferred position to demolish and rebuild the market.

DADA has been very clear that we do not believe this will guarantee the continuation of the market.

Both Councillor Rennie and Newton show their ignorance of the planning term ‘Mandatory Height Limit/s’.

Preston Market Heritage Review 2020

Preston Market Update

DADA will continue to advocate for the protection of Preston Market on it’s current footprint. We do not believe and have not been shown any evidence that the market can be saved by moving and rebuilding it.

Below are the last set of questions and answers from the general council meeting on December 7th 2020.

Note the spin; council continue make ingenuous claims that they support the continuation of the market on the “site” not on it’s current footprint.  They also claim to want to protect significant heritage features but not on the current building or footprint.

New to council’s response is the palm off to the state government.  Happy reading!

Preston Market Fast-tracked: The Age, 2nd September 2020

There has been many complaints that DADA is misleading and fear mungering with our claims that Darebin Council is keeping the option open of demolishing and moving Preston Market to the corner of the site.

There is nothing said in the article below that indicates that Preston Market will be protected where it is.

You can read between the lines and under the spin yourself.
